Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia was announced early on Friday, Octorber 11 as 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Within a short stay as PM, Abiy Ahmed has consolidated democracy in Ethiopia and has gained admiration for peacemaking efforts with neighboring Eritrea.
Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chairperson of the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee that awards the Peace Prize, said Abiy was named for his decisive initiatives to end his country’s conflict with Eritrea within months of his coming to office in 2018.
The president of Rwanda Paul Kagame has congratulated Abiy Ahmed for his prestigious Nobel Peace Prize Award recognition.
Paul Kagame took to twitter to applaud Ethiopia’s Prime Minister award and decribes it as well deserved.
